Diagnosis records

What should I know about meningioma diagnosis records to ask for?

Understand the roles of MRI reports, pathology, operative notes and diagnosis dates in documenting a meningioma without interpreting the medicine online.

Quick answer

A meningioma record may include an imaging report, the images themselves, a neurology or neurosurgery note, an operative report and a pathology report if tissue was removed. These files do different jobs. Imaging describes what was seen. Pathology describes tissue. A visit note records the clinician's diagnosis and plan. Keep the first known date and the facility for each record.

01

Ask for reports and images separately

A radiology report is the written interpretation. The image files are the scan itself. A records request can name both, and can ask for prior scans that were compared. If surgery occurred, ask the hospital for the operative note and pathology report. If there was no surgery, say so rather than looking for a pathology file that may not exist.

  • MRI or CT report and image files
  • Neurology or neurosurgery consultation
  • Operative and pathology reports, when they exist

02

Keep the medicine separate from the litigation

The FDA label reports that meningiomas have been reported after repeated medroxyprogesterone acetate administration, primarily with long-term use, and gives clinical instructions to prescribers. Research studies describe associations in populations. Court filings describe allegations. None of those sources interprets one person's scan or decides the cause of one diagnosis.

  • Medical record: what a clinician found
  • Research: patterns in studied populations
  • Court record: allegations and case management

Questions

Short answers that stand on their own

Is an imaging report the same as pathology?

No. Imaging describes a scan. Pathology examines tissue and exists only when tissue was obtained.

Should I interpret the scan myself?

No. Keep the report and discuss its meaning with a qualified medical professional who can review the actual images and history.

A quick reality check

What this page can and cannot tell you

This page cannot establish that Depo-Provera caused a diagnosis, whether a claim qualifies, case value, insurance coverage or a legal deadline. Prescribing information, population research and court dockets answer different questions; none decides one person's medical or legal situation. A licensed attorney must review the complete records and current law.
