Starting a case check

The questions people ask first.

How do I know if I have a case?

Only a licensed attorney can answer that for your situation, and the rules are different in every state. In general an attorney looks at whether somebody else's conduct played a part, whether you were hurt, whether the two are connected, and what the law where it happened says about all of that. A case check is how those facts get in front of one.

What does it cost?

Nothing. Asking costs nothing. If a firm later offers to represent you, the fee is explained in writing before you sign anything. We do not quote fees or promise results on this page.

What happens after I tell you what happened?

We organize what you told us and mark what is missing. A licensed attorney reads it. Then you hear back with one of three answers: we need more details, a lawyer wants to talk with you about representation, or the firm cannot take this one. You get a plain answer either way.

Do I need a police report or paperwork?

No. Start with what you remember. You can text photos, reports, bills, and medical records whenever you find them.

Who sees what I share?

The team reviewing your case. If another law firm needs to be involved, we tell you the name of that firm and ask you first. Your answers are not sold and are not used to follow you around with ads.

Can I do this by text or phone instead?

Yes. Send a text or call (435) 383-8833. Someone answers in English or Spanish. The common questions are all answered at https://vettedcases.com/questions/ if you want those first.

How long does it take?

A text or a call takes about 5 to 10 minutes. Some cases need more questions, like a death in the family or a long history with a product or a chemical. Those can take more than one call.

Is Spanish available?

Yes. Texting and the phone line are both available in Spanish. Ask for Spanish and someone will answer in Spanish.

I already talked to an insurance adjuster. Is it too late?

You can still do a case check. Tell us what was said, and whether you gave a recorded statement or signed anything. Those facts matter to the attorney reading what you sent. Deadlines are different in every state and for every kind of claim.

Who reads my case check?

Tell Vetted Cases what happened by phone, text or written case check. Gregory S. Hach, Esq. is the initial attorney reviewer. If another law firm may be a better fit, we tell you its name and ask permission before sending anything. Starting is not the same as hiring a lawyer. Representation begins only with a written agreement you read and sign.

Will I get calls over and over?

No. We contact you about your case check and nothing else. Tell us to stop at any time and we stop.

Cost and fees

What you pay to ask, and fees later on.

If a lawyer takes my case, what do I pay then?

Any fee is set by the law firm, put in writing, and explained to you before you sign anything. We do not quote fee amounts on this website. When you get the agreement, read it line by line and ask about anything that is not clear. Take as long as you need.

Do I owe anything if the firm says no?

No. If the firm cannot take your matter, you owe nothing. You keep a copy of what you sent us and you are free to talk with any other lawyer.

Are there costs besides the attorney fee?

A case can have costs that are separate from the fee, like charges for medical records, court filings, or an expert. A written agreement should say who pays those and when. Ask about it before you sign.

What happens after

Who reads it and what you hear back.

What kinds of answers can I get back?

One of three. We need more details from you. A lawyer wants to talk with you about representation. Or the firm cannot take this one. You get a plain answer either way, and we tell you when the answer is no.

Can I add more information later?

Yes. A long case can take more than one call, and that is fine. You can text photos, reports, bills, and letters over whenever you find them.

Can a person help me finish it?

Yes. Call or text (435) 383-8833 and someone will walk through the questions with you in English or Spanish.

Already talked to insurance

Statements, offers, and the calls that keep coming.

I gave a recorded statement. What now?

You can still do a case check. Tell us who you spoke with, roughly when, and what you remember saying. Ask them for a copy of the recording and the claim number. Those facts matter to the attorney reading your file.

They offered me money. Should I take it?

We cannot tell you what to do with an offer, and no website should. What helps is telling us what the letter or email says, whether you signed anything yet, and whether you were asked to sign a release. Keep the paperwork and bring it with you.

The insurance company keeps calling me.

You are allowed to say you are not ready to talk and ask them to put their questions in writing. Write down the date, the name, and what they asked. Bring that list to your case check.

Already have a lawyer

What we can do if someone already represents you.

I already signed with a lawyer. Can I still use this?

Tell us that first. Rules limit what we can discuss with someone who already has a lawyer for the same matter. You are always free to ask your own lawyer questions about your case, and you can ask them for a copy of your file.

Can I get a second opinion?

You get to decide who represents you. The cleanest path is to sort out your current agreement first. Tell us where things stand and we will be straight with you about what we can and cannot do while another lawyer is on the case.

How text and calls work

Who you are talking to, and what it costs.

What does texting cost?

We do not charge for it. Your phone plan may charge for messages and data. Text STOP at any time to stop messages. Text HELP for help.

Is the phone call recorded?

Phone calls may be recorded, and you will hear that said at the beginning of the call.

What number do I text?

The same number you can call: (435) 383-8833. Call or text, whichever is easier.

One more thing to know

Depending on the location and type of matter, another law firm may need to assist or handle it. We will identify that firm and ask permission before sharing information.

This page is not legal advice. Gregory S. Hach, Esq. is the initial attorney reviewer for case checks started through Vetted Cases. Attorney advertising.

What we will never do

A lot of injury websites make big promises. We would rather tell you where the line is, so you know what you are getting when you start.

  1. 01Tell you that you have a case
  2. 02Put a dollar value on what happened
  3. 03Do deadline math for your state on a web page
  4. 04Promise how fast a lawyer will call you
  5. 05Show reviews or awards we cannot back up
  6. 06Send your file to firms you did not name

What we do instead: organize what you tell us, mark what is missing, and put it in front of a licensed attorney who answers you.

Do not see your question? Ask us.

The same questions, the same review, and the same attorney at the end, whichever way you reach us.
