The New Brunswick Police Records Bureau on Kirkpatrick Street handles copies of city police and accident reports. The department also links an online crash report service. Campus streets and toll roads belong to other police agencies.

New Brunswick asks for your name spelled the way you gave it to the officer, your date of birth, the date and time, the place, the type of incident, the plate numbers of the cars, and the case number if you have one.

The bureau takes requests in person, by phone, by email or by mail on weekdays. Walk up service is cash only, and a mailed request needs a check or money order made out to the department's records bureau. Credit cards are not accepted.

The department says its crash reports use the standard New Jersey crash report forms and can be bought through the online crash report service it links. Check there before making a trip to the records window.

Rutgers University Police cover the New Brunswick campus and keep a records bureau on Paul Robeson Boulevard. The department says a report is not released without proper identification, and that reports are usually ready about a week after the incident.

If the crash happened on the Turnpike or the Garden State Parkway, the report is a State Police toll road report. Order it on the State Police request site and pick that report type instead of going to the city window.

Federal fatal-crash counts, 2022 to 2024
That is 9.4% of every fatal crash the federal file records in the state over the same three years.
These are crashes in which at least one person died within 30 days, as counted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. They are not a count of all crashes, injuries, insurance claims or lawsuits, and most crashes are not in this file at all.
The counts are not adjusted for population, road miles or how much people drive, so they cannot say one place is more dangerous than another. A crash appearing here does not show who was at fault, whether anyone was insured or whether anyone has a claim.
